A Chug is not a pure breed and is a mixture of a Pug and a Chihuahua. Sometimes called “Pugwawas” – the Chihuahua/Pug mix is a good family dog and they are one of the most sought after designer breeds. After owning both pugs and chihuahuas, we thought a hybrid of the two would be a great pet.
Chug Dog and Chug Puppy Personality
Since chugs are a mixture of Pug and a Chihuahua, you can expect to see a mixture of these 2 personalities. There is no guarantee of what mix of each you will get, but you should be able to tell after your chug puppy is home for a few weeks. Chugs are generally good with strangers and kids. While Chihuahuas can be somewhat reserved and protective of their environment, Pugs are very friendly and laid back animals. Pugs can be stubborn and Chihuahuas are good at obeying their masters. This mix creates a nice balance in the chug personality.
Chug Dog and Chug Puppy Health
Chihuahuas and Pugs are primarily indoor animals – pugs especially. Therefore you can expect your Chihuahua/Pug mix to require a minimum amount of exercise. Depending on the amount of pug in chug, they may experience some overheating and breathing problems during strenuous exercise. At 3 months old, our chug puppy only wanted to go outside when he had to go to he bathroom. Even then, he would run right back to the door when he was done doing his business.
Finding a Chug Breeder
Chug dogs are an emerging breed which makes it somewhat difficult to locate a breeder. They are also rarity at puppy mills, but that’s ok, because we do not reccomend buying a chug puppy from a puppy mill. We will be compiling a list of chug breeders early next year. In the meantime check out our chug puppies for sale page.
